Why I Was Crowned King Of Ekpili Music – Morocco Maduka

The highlife music crooner, Chief Morocco Maduka has revealed how he became the king of Ekpili music (Eze Egwu Ekpili), stating that the whole musicians in Igboland gathered and conferred on him the status of King of Ekpili Music.
He made this revelation during an exclusive interview with him, recently at his country home of Ukwuru in Anambra State.
Morocco spoke of how he transformed the Ekpili music into what it is known for today, adding that “my consistent efforts in this music genre and the golden voice God gave me makes people to always fall in love with my music”.
The highly jovial music icon said that I.K Dairo was known for Akpala music but later transformed to Juju, which has become the trending genre of music in Yoruba nation.
As for Igbo highlife music, Morocco said Chief Osita Osadebey brought enormous transformation which made the Igbo music the rave of the time.
“But in my own case, it’s a different ball game. I got my own inspiration from ‘Njakiri’ and I have consistently promoted the Ekpili kind of highlife music.
“I transformed Ekpili music into what it is today. Everybody has come to fall in love with Ekpili music because of my inspirational and innovative efforts at making it better and sustainable. And because of this, the whole Igbo musicians came together and crowned me ‘Eze Egwu Ekpili’.
“It makes me proud because our young musicians are now emulating the Morocco kind of music. I will continue to associate with the generation next of musicians, because these are the people that will take the Ekpili music to the next level”, he narrated.
Meanwhile, it is equally on record that Chief Emeka Morocco Maduka has made enormous contributions towards the peace that is today enjoyed in Anambra State Chapter of Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN).
“As a result of these timeless peace initiatives, Morocco was also conferred with the status of the Premier of PMAN, South East Zone; a recognition that has continued to position him as a rallying figure amongst musicians in the South East of Nigeria.
Chief Morocco Maduka is one music icon that has continued to enjoy celebrations across the globe. In his over 60 years in the music industry, he had affected lives positively with his Ekpili kind of music.
Based on these achievements, the Global Friends Africa-Euro Hospitality Association has decided to celebrate Chief Emeka Morocco Maduka on October 23 and 24, 2020, at Awka and Onitsha to showcase the achievements of the music legend.
“The London based President of the group, Mr Eddie Isebor has said that the 60th anniversary of Morocco in music would mark one of the historic music concerts in Nigeria.
He enjoined the government of Nigeria and various States, multinationals and other corporate entities and of course well-to-do individuals in Nigeria and beyond to support the Project Morocco 60 Years In Music.
