Honourable Members Of Bayelsa State House Of Assembly To Get Life Pension

Bayelsa: The Bayelsa State House of Assembly has approved payment of five hundred thousand naira (N500,000) for life pension for the speakers of the house

According to the bill deputy speakers and other Honourable members of the house to receive similar packages for their pension benefits.

The bill was sponsored by the leader of the House, Hon. Peter Akpe

The Bayelsa State House of Assembly has approved a monthly pension payment for speakers, deputy speakers and other Honourable members of the house for life.

The Nation reports that the bill was sponsored by the leader of the House, Hon. Peter Akpe and it was passed on the floor of the House on Wednesday, April 24, 2019.

The House approved five hundred thousand naira (N500,000) post service monthly pension to the speakers of the Assembly while deputy speakers are to earn two hundred thousand naira (N200,000) for life.

According to the bill the other 24 Honourable members of the house will also earn hundred thousand naira (N100,000) for life.

The bill specifically provided that “former lawmakers including persons of Bayelsa origin, who served in the old Rivers state, would enjoy life pensions for their services in the state as applicable to former presidents, vice-presidents, governors and deputy governors across the country.”

According to the bill, to qualify for the speakership pension of five hundred thousand naira (N500,000) monthly, the lawmaker must have served for two years and above.
