DELTA STATE GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION TRIBUNAL UPDATE: JULY 16th 2019.

CHIEF GREAT OVEDJE OGBORU VS SEN. (DR.) IFEANYI OKOWA.

The Delta State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, sitting in Asaba, where Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru, the APC Governorship Candidate and APC are challenging the declaration of Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa, the PDP governorship candidate by INEC, as the winner of 9th March, 2019 governorship Election, continued hearing of the Petition yesterday, Tuesday the 16th day of July, 2019.

The Petitioners (Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru and APC), having called about twenty (20) witnesses, yesterday, decided to closed their case (petitioners’ case). Apart from calling of witnesses, the Petitioners tendered volumes of documentary evidence. That is, voters’ registers and result from polling units level up to the State level (EC8A’s to EC8E’s) in proof of their case, to show that 9th of March, 2019 governorship election was senselessly rigged by PDP and his cohorts.

Meanwhile, 1st Respondent, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa who was supposed to open his defence today, 17th July, 2019, pleaded for time to enable him study properly, the case of the Petitioners. Not withstanding the application of the 1st Respondent, the Tribunal insisted that 1st Respondent time starts running from tommorrow, 17th of July, 2019. That is, by Tuesday next week when the Tribunal will re-convened based on the application of 1st Respondent, Dr. Okowa, he would be left with only five days to state his defence to the petition/case of the Petitioners, instead of ten days originally allocated to him.

With the volume of, and legally-back evidence presented by the Petitioners at the tribunal, a New Delta under Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru/APC is achievable.

Hearing of the defence of the 1st Respondent comes up on Tuesday, 23rd of July, 2019.
