Delta 2023: Group Blasts DC-03, Says They Should Stop Misleading Deltans On Zoning Formula They Never Believes

…Central/Urhobo Never A Day Believes In Zoning Formula Or Arrangement They Always Contest Any Governorship Election Both In PDP Primaries And General Elections. So They Have No Right To Speak On Zoning Formula

The Delta Central Political Movement, DC-03 can focus on their Urhobo governorship ambition come 2023 since it’s their constitutional right to do so. The movement being floated by the cream of Urhobo political leaders is free to propagate their course of championing Urhobo Governorship Agenda.

What we however disagree with them is where they are making reference to the settled issue of the non-existent zoning formula based on the Senatorial Districts. Of course, some of the members of the said DC-03 who have contested the PDP primary elections in 2006 and 2014 together with other aspirants from the Delta North and South Senatorial Districts know that there is nothing like zoning in Delta State PDP based on Senatorial Districts.

Let us call a spade a spade. We can’t continue to deceive ourselves and expect that what you refused to do yesterday, others will not follow the same recalcitrant steps? The Zoning Formula in the State that we should continue to uphold is based on ethnic groups. The pendulum by all fairness favours the Ijaw and the Isoko ethnic groups. Zoning by ethnic groups which is being practiced since 1999 is consistent with the 1999 Constitution, especially chapter two of the Constitution as well as the PDP Constitution, 2017.

Can David Edevbie, Hon. Ejaife Odebala, Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi amongst others in that DC-03 movement boldly say that the Zoning Formula is practice in the PDP Delta State Chapter is based on Senatorial Districts? It’s said that he who comes to equity must come with clean hands.

Prominent Urhobo leaders under the umbrella of Urhobo Progressive Union (UPU) have dismissed in many occasions the so-called Senatorial Districts Zoning Formula. The Uvwiamuge Declaration authored by the late Gen. Patrick Aziza and Chief Mike T. Okenini JP as UPU President and Publicity Secretary on the 28th of March, 2014 and the World Press Conference issued by Chief Engr. Joe Omene (JP) as UPU President on the 4th of November, 2014 can attest to the fact that even the Urhobos believed that there’s nothing like Zoning based on Senatorial Districts in Delta State. You cannot eat your cake and have it back. That’s against the laws of nature.

For purposes of record, we want unsuspecting Deltans to have a glimpse of an excerpt from the said UPU Uvwiamuge Declaration on the Zoning crisis in Delta State, “There has never been any Zoning arrangement for the governorship position to any Senatorial District or tribe in Delta State by PDP. Both Governors James Ibori and Emmanuel Uduaghan who were elected on the platform of the party were challenged at the primaries by aspirants outside their Senatorial District or tribe…”Having held this anti-Senatorial Districts Zoning arrangement in previous elections, what moral rectitude do members of DC-03 or the entire Urhobo nation have to now canvas for Zoning Formula based on Senatorial Districts?

Our appeal on this Zoning conundrum is that people should not unnecessarily heat up the polity in order to distract Governor Okowa. Ethnic based Zoning Formula in the State has been in existence since 1999. The Urhobos have gotten theirs. Let them wait till power rotates to all ethnic groups.

Delta State PDP should continue to uphold the ethnic based Zoning Formula in the State. Let stakeholders in the Party work for the ethnic groups that have not produced governor to get shut this time. Let the Urhobos forget their governorship ambition to work for other ethnic groups that have not produced governor in the State. Such in our thinking, will build a virile and united Party in the State.
