2019 Press Week Ends In Grand Style As Ikeogwu Calls For Support For The Completion Of The Union Press Centre

By JOHNSON EBIGIDE

Chairman of the Delta State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Mike Ikeogwu, has called on critical stakeholders in the state to assist towards the completion of the union press centre in the state.

Comrade Ikeogwu made the call in his welcome address during the 2019 Press Week Lecture/Awards/Fund Raising occasion, held at the David’s Event Centre in Asaba.

He said that the leadership of the union in the state decided to include fund raising as part of the 2019 Press Week celebration, considering the urgent need to complement the efforts of the state government towards the completion of a befitting press centre for the union in the state, adding that there was the need to entrench public private partnership in the running of the union in the state, just as he decried the revelation that it was only the Delta State Council of the union that was yet to have a press centre in the South South geopolitical region of Nigeria.

The labour leader disclosed that the building of the union press centre in the state had gone well over 80 % completion, adding that the present effort was to complement the determination of the state government, under the watch of Senator (Dr) Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, to ensure an early completion of the centre in 2020.

While thanking the invited guests for coming in their numbers to identity with the union, Comrade Ikeogwu enjoined public spirited donors to always support the union to enhance the agenda setting and watch-dog-of-the-society mandates of journalists in the state.
