NED NWOKO,VIRAL VIDEO & DELTA: SETTING THE RECORDS STRAIGHT.

Senator Nwoko’s Remarks Were Never Voiced To Denigrate Or Bring The Governor To Disrepute. He Speaks As A  Patriot, Pan Deltan Senator Who Has The Best Interests Of All Deltans Selflessly At Heart

“Senator Prince Ned Nwoko was one of the key personalities who facilitated the release of the Ovie of Ewu Kingdom, HRM Clement Ikolo Ogenerukevwe, detained by the Nigerian Army in Abuja over the killing of 17 military personnel on March 14th, 2024 at Okuama, an Urhobo Community in Ughelli South Local Government Area.

“His selfless deeds beyond borders are unrivalled in a state where tribal/clannish sentiments are predominant. He means well for the entire state.

Our Reporter

I have been following various reactions in relation to a video recording of Senator Prince Ned Nwoko, where he spoke on key state issues, especially the Okpai electricity power and Ogwashi Uku dam projects.

It has become necessary to set the records straight before the discerning public and correct grossly erroneous impressions in sections of the conventional and social media.

In the viral video, distinguished Senator Nwoko representing Delta North Senatorial District at the National Assembly, specifically mentioned his discussions with the Delta State governor, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori on the need for his administration to fund the Okpai Power Plant in Ndokwa East Local Government Area, estimated to cost 35billion Naira.

The Senator also requested from Governor Oborevwori, the completion of the Ogwashi Uku dam, located in Aniocha South Local Government Area.

Senator Nwoko who was on a courtesy visit to General Mike Ndubisi (rtd.), President General of Ndokwa Neku,NNU in his residence at Ezionum, Ukwuani Local Government Area, said the state can fund the projects with the receipt of significant revenue from the federation account. He opined that  Delta’s revenue profile was more impressive than virtually all the South Eastern states. The senator noted that the governor however explained that he is servicing inherited debts, and the state government would not be able to execute such projects as requested at this time.

The lawmaker concluded that he also asked the Oborevwori administration to  make more efforts to execute projects in Delta North to replicate his development initiatives in other Senatorial Districts, especially Warri axis where Julius Berger is constructing multi-billion Naira bridges/roads.

Characteristic of Senator Nwoko, he spoke the truth clearly in good faith. But what well-meaning Deltans viewed as fair comment by Senator Nwoko has been sadly and hastily interpreted as undue criticisms of the Oborevwori administration.

Contrary to spurious insinuations, Senator Nwoko’s remarks were never voiced to denigrate or bring the governor to disrepute. He spoke as a  patriot, a pan Deltan senator who has the best interests of all Deltans selflessly at heart. He shared his views frankly as a statesman guided by a deep understanding of Delta’s  group diversity and imperative of promoting unity and social cohesion,in a peculiar multi ethnic environment.

His concerns are about peace, progress and even  development of  Delta. The Senator understands that he was elected with a popular mandate to safeguard  the socio-economic well bring of the people of Delta North and also ensure good governance in Delta and Nigeria in general as Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He has nothing personal against the state governor. That was why in the viral video, he wholeheartedly praised the governor as “doing well” in Warri area. He spoke of improvement not antagonism. In fact, Senator Nwoko has much regards for governor Oborevwori just as the state chief executive holds him in very high esteem. Both prominent Deltans have a long history of cordial relationship, dating back to the I990s when Prince Nwoko was a successful practicing lawyer  in London,United Kingdom.

The senator offered an advice to the governor as a friend and brother not as foe.He is not an adversary. The senator can never be. He is a man of  integrity and courage who speaks candidly without fear or favour, based  on honest conviction.

Also contrary to false innuendos, he is not against the development  of Delta central or any other senatorial district other than Delta North where he hails from. He wants the governor to serve every district in Delta and prays for him to succeed.

Majority of the people can attest to the fact that Prince Ned Nwoko is admirably  cosmopolitan. He is generally regarded as one of the most detribalized leaders Nigeria has ever produced. A global citizen respected across Nigeria with hands of fellowship and love spread to all the states and regions, where he maintains strong ties and dignified presence.

In various parts of Delta, Senator Nwoko is a benefactor to many people. In Delta Central as in other places, he has proved his charitable mettle, catering regularly  for the welfare of all -men,women and youths, offering all kinds of financial help to the needy and the less- privileged.

In 2019, he gave 20 million Naira cash to 20  first class graduates of Federal University of Petroleum University  FUPRE, Effurun to further their education and also donated 20 million Naira to Delta State University Abraka in 2020 for the development  of infrastructure at the institution’s Mass Communication Department. Both universities are in Delta Central (Urhobo land).

He was one of the key personalities who facilitated the release of the Ovie of Ewu Kingdom, HRM Clement Ikolo Ogenerukevwe, detained by the Nigerian Army in Abuja over the killing of 17 military personnel on March 14 ,2024, at Okuama, an Urhobo Community in Ughelli South Local Government Area. His selfless deeds beyond borders are unrivalled in a state where tribal/clannish sentiments are predominant. He means well for the entire state.

Even his perspective on inherited debts was wrongly and ignorantly interpreted. As an accomplished world-class business man versed in international financing, he is an advocate of government borrowing to fund viable projects/critical public infrastructure. The senator believes that it is the standard practice in Europe,America and other advanced places. His remarks should not be seen as a slur on Oborevwori or Okowa administrations. More so when he has been a genuine supporter of the present and immediate past administrations in the state.

Let me state for the upteempt time that he has nothing against the former or current governor. He relates well with the duo and infact chatted happily and  freely with them when  they met at the state congress of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP held at the Cenotaph Asaba on the 31st of August 2024.

Nwoko, Oborevwori and Okowa are not in any feud. The three would always be on the high table of Delta development. Those imputing imaginary motives otherwise, are on  their own. They are the real enemies of the state.

Senator Nwoko remains a credible and valuable party man who regards the needs and aspirations of every member of his constituent as his  responsibility, irrespective of political, religious or social status.

Even his commitment to the PDP is immeasurable. In the 2023 general elections, he devoted great energy  and  mobilized massive personal resources running into millions of Naira  to aid the PDP campaigns, towards the victory,we are all enjoying in the state today.

He was in tertiary schools, villages, wards and local government  areas especially in Delta North  to rally support for the PDP in presidential, senatorial, governorship and state assembly elections. That the PDP got the highest votes of 155,168 in Delta North out of total ballots of 360,234 among the three senatorial districts,to win the March 18,2023 Delta governorship election, remained an undeniable testament  of the huge sacrifice  of people like Prince Ned Nwoko.

For rude little children and even some clownish adults who are pouring misguided insults on the distinguished Senator,he holds nothing against them but  forgiveness.Who can curse a  man whom God had  blessed from ALL FRONTS? It is certainly well with Senator Ned Nwoko.

The Senator stands focussed on effective lawmaking for the good governance of Nigeria including Delta. This he has excellently demonstrated with the  attraction of multi billion Naira projects to his constituency, different empowerment programmes, numerous bills and motions on the Senate floor including the widely accepted renewed quest for the created of Anioma state.

About wild speculations on 2027,our performing  senator believes that God owns tomorrow. When he gets to the bridge,he will cross it with his trademark gallantry.
