In a ceremony marked by celebration and symbolism, the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo SAN, ably represented by the Director, Airdrome, Mr. Hassan Tai Jibuno, has received a new Italian flag carrier, NEOS S.P.A. Air as it made its inaugural flight from Milan to Lagos. The event signifies a key milestone in air connectivity and bolsters the economic and bilateral relations between Nigeria and Italy.

In his address, Mr. Jibuno expressed the government’s enthusiasm for NEOS S.P.A. Air’s maiden flight, marking a resurgence of direct connectivity between Nigeria and Italy. “Today is historic,” he said. “This inaugural flight symbolizes a new chapter in overcoming barriers in direct air travel between our two nations, bringing seamless connectivity from Lagos to Milan and beyond.”

“The commencement of NEOS S.P.A. Air’s operations reflects a commitment from both countries to deepen ties. Mr. Jibuno highlighted that the project began with NEOS S.P.A.’s designation on the Nigeria-Italy route and has seen concerted efforts from Skymaster Achievers International Services Ltd., NEOS’s local partner in Nigeria, with significant support from the Italian Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Stefano De Leo.

“This direct flight will not only enhance trade but also bolster the strong cultural and economic connections between our two countries,” Mr. Jibuno emphasized. “The Nigerian community in Italy represents an important bridge, contributing to Italy’s cultural diversity, while Italian businesses in Nigeria have positively impacted our economy for decades.”

Reflecting on the role of aviation in Nigeria’s economic development, Mr. Jibuno outlined the commitment of the Federal Government and the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. “Aviation is key to breaching obstacles in trade, tourism, and commerce,” he noted. “As part of the Renewed Hope Agenda, we are prioritizing aviation policies and programs that foster international connectivity and ease of travel.”

Highlighting recent advancements, Mr. Jibuno mentioned the domestication of the Cape Town Convention and ongoing policy reforms, aimed at supporting Nigerian carriers in fleet acquisition and streamlining air travel for Nigerians.

“In his closing remarks, Mr. Jibuno assured NEOS S.P.A. Air and all foreign airlines operating in Nigeria of the government’s steadfast support for their success. “On behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria, we are committed to creating a conducive environment for NEOS S.P.A. and other international carriers to thrive in our skies.”

“The event, attended by dignitaries, airline executives, and passengers aboard the maiden flight, marks a renewed partnership between Nigeria and Italy, paving the way for sustained economic and cultural collaboration between the two nations.
